One of my favorite kayak/rowing races is this saturday at noon. It's not at all serious, well a few people are serious but they can be ignored. The last time I did the race there were about 50 kayaks, which is pandemonium as the river is only 3 meters wide 100 meters from the start. For the $10 entry fee you get to do the race and enjoy steamed clams, corn on the cob, and beer on an island in the harbor, which is also the finish line. There's a news article about it http://www.seacoastonline.com/news/09192003/col_wate/50857.htm A quote from the race poster: "Six-Mile Course for Small Boats; Sail or Row through Salt Marsh, Surf, Ocean & Harbor; Rigs Must Knock Down; Kayaks Tolerated; Spandex Surcharge." Alas I have to miss it this year as I have other commitments. -- Kirk Olsen kork4_at_cluemail.com *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
