I'm probably going to have people finding fault with this recommendation, but it's simple: I just use the long nylon tent stakes you can buy at any Walmart. Not only do I use them for camping on sand; I also use them to hold the lines we use to mark the boundaries of a sand volleyball court. They have worked fine in both situations. I pound them down as far as I can - usually until the top of the stake is 2-3 inches below the surface of the sand. The deeper sand seems to be compacted enough to be able to hold the stake well. Of course, I don't know if this would be the best recommendation in a real hard wind, but, like I said, it's a simple solution. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
