   flex is a funny thing

flex is generally not wanted in steel tooling, my old
taiwanese "chocolate" spanners come to mind, they
looked like they had been stamped out of hot chocolate
and the jaws would flex open when called apon to
remove a difficult nut

yet most of us have found when trying to remove a
difficult wood screw that using a long handled screw
driver is much better than using one with a stubby
shaft

why?, because the rotational flex allows us to wind up
the torque rather than try to deliver it all at once

what does this have to do with paddles?, very little i
suspect but my home made wooden paddles feel nicer to
use than my cheap alloy shafted paddle so as i am not
a racer if it feels nicer i use it more
