Inspired by recent report from Jim, I have checked out park fees and flight cost. http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/bc/gwaiihaanas/visit/tarifs_fees_e.asp?park=136 - here is the list of fees. As I understand, mandatory orientation session is CDN 75 per group, and camping fee is CDN 60 per person for trip from 6 to 14 nights. Moderate, compared to flight cost (CDN 320 return flight right now from Vancouver - should be 500 in summer), and CDN 400 water shuttle cost; they warn it takes 2 days to paddle to the park boundary, and looks like truth - it's 50 kms according to the map http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/bc/gwaiihaanas/visit/visit2c_E.asp . Perhaps, doable in a day under sail rig - but with those narrows and tidal currents I doubt... Solo trip is going to be costly. BC Ferries can be discarded: it will take days, including loong bus ride between two ferries on the Vancouver Island, and about CDN 300 (return) in peak season (+more, if you take a sleeping cabin). Quite a remote place from Vancouver. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
