Hi,
Beating a dead horse I suppose, but........

If the water is cold enough that you do not wish to be in it with the
clothes you are wearing, then you should be wearing some type of
wetsuit or drysuit that will allow you to be fully functional in the
water.

The paddling jacket is to reduce the effects of sustained cooling in
rain, wind, or spray while upright. It is not a substitute for
"proper" wetsuit ware for the water conditions on which you are
paddling. BCU folks have what they call a "storm Cag", which fills
the paddling jacket roll described in recent posts.

Too hot? Roll the boat, do a sculling brace, hold the bow of another
boat and dip into the water; lots of ways to keep cool. No excuse to
be unprepared to swim.

Chuck brings up a good point about the storm cag. Chillcheater.com has the
best one I've seen. Seemed a bit less than 2 pounds with first rate quality. A
great land rain coat as well as excellent supplimentary protection at sea.
Breathable and waterproof. No connections as usual.

99 British pounds is about USD 200 (may be more); When the weather sucks
suddenly, and you don't have a paddling jacket (under PFD), then you put the
Cag over PFD, I understand? and if paddling jacket with hood is already
on, - there is no need in such Cag?

99 pounds (why didn't their money go metric? ; ) ) is about 155 usd,
depending on the hour, month or day. Cag is for use over pfd upto and including dry
garments under pfd. When temps plunge or rain goes sideways not a bad addition
to the dayhatch .

I see, pounds are lighter now (or buck is heavier :-). Then another question
- which one of these Dry cags did you mean - the one for 95 (not 99, sorry)
without hood, called Unisex, or the one for 110 with hood called Aquatherm
Touring Cag? From description it looks like Aquaterm is for some minimal
clothing, perhaps not as loose as Unisex (not for over-PFD use?)

(Ahem.) There is no such thing as metric money. However, I recall that the
British pound went decimal several years ago. None of which has anything to do
with the exchange rate...

Decimal? Is that the measure of the sound a pound makes when it hits the
floor?

Jim using too much contact cement......

It no longer weighs enough to make a sound when hitting the floor!
Just read the news about a very experienced sailor here in Switzerland,
one who had done several transatlantic solos on his yacht. His boat was
found 3 kilometres offshore on lake Geneva, driving itself in circles,
minus the sailor. The guard rail on his boat was broken and his PFD's
were all neatly stowed in their lockers. The air temperature was about
minus 30C yesterday and the water was B****y cold on the Dyer scale.
The people I talk to (bore) over here about kayaking never understand
why I put in loaded for arctic conditions and I can never find one of
these news items when I need it.
Kevin.
