Last weekend the Coho (the ferry between Port Angeles and Victoria) interrupted its routine crossing to start a search for an over turned boat. The boat turned out to be a kayak which they believe may have blown off some ones dock or beach. The kayak was recovered from just about the middle of the straight. There may be no way of knowing where it came from. The important point is to remember to put a cockpit cover on your kayak whenever you leave it on a beach or a dock. The cover lets people know that they don't have to start a search for a possible victim in the water. I'll make a couple of calls after the holidays and try to track down more info on the kayak. They might know where it came from and who it belongs to. Otherwise someone on the Coho can claim salvage rights.
