[Paddlewise] Soaking wet weights of foldables (Was Re: Song and Dance Airlines)

You have no real appreciation of increased weight of a folding kayak until
you pack away a sogging wet cotton canvas decked double Klepper into its
several canvas bags that got soak in the downpour you were disassembling the
boat in.

I guess the only worse situation I ever had was once leaving one assembled
on the roof of my minivan  overnight when a torrential rainstorm hit.  I had
left the long open cockpit uncovered.  In the morning my minivan was down on
its springs looking like one of those customized low slung street dragsters.
I had to bail it out by climbing up on one tire until the man of the
household I was visting, a Burl Ives looking type, muscled the boat off the
roof.  Luckily the wooden frame took the stress of being shifted around
well.
