A lot of us here in central Cal use folding camp chairs. We bring a large container of fresh water to a paddle. When finished we put the kayak on the camp chairs and rinse it off, prior to putting it on top of the car. I got mine at Campmor (however, I just looked at their website and couldn't find the ones I got.)
