Then when I get to the other side I can slide things into alignment and lay the tower where it belongs. To make this easy, I marked the cross bar with a paint pen to locate both towers and to indicate which is the front rack. I made some wooden copies of the "shark saddles" and as others have noted, always strap the boats to the rack, not to the saddles. Just my 2c.
