I've had to shop in this sort of store for years [job related, just for the record] and I've encountered a lot of clerks who seem to like to think that they are important because they are protecting society by making it hard for normal people to get pepper spray and safety vests and badge holders and such. This in Chicago where most of the felons carry automatic pistols and even housewives have some sort of weapon in the house. Makes me feel real safe. Just think what life would be like without wannabe clerks. Next time just tell him that, unless what you want is a restricted item, you would be more comfortable not revealing your identity or occupation. And pay cash. And insist on a receipt. And ask his name. That should get his juices flowing.
