I also have the 12 MAP and found that by placing the unit in a baggie, it was fine. The main problem I found was that with the 12 on the deck, it would get hot, then a roll would cool it, creating a vacuum and suck in a few drops of water. I always rinsed out the battery compartment and the antenna jack after a salt water trip. Mine did go back to Garmin for a free replacement due to corrosion of the antenna jack.
