Doug, The map76 is that I have is not a lemon. The Etrex Legend I used to have was. Garmin suggested I keep this unit in a dry bag, and several friends have had problems with the same unit and saltwater when they didn't use a bag. IMHO, the battery compartment is a weak link in their submersability. Other than that, the unit is great.
