Here in Michigan, some of our finest paddlers (I'm talking Olympic gold)
are also our finest XC skiiers. They totally dominate in races where
other skiers "miss the wax," by double-poling the entire course, even
uphill. If you lack snow, but have frozen lakes, double-poling in
ice-skates is also a hellacious workout. Great for the triceps and
lats.
Some of us also look for open bays and rivers and keep in shape for
paddling-- by paddling all year long.

What

The cheapest ones: Pushups, pullups and situps. Ya don't even have to leave
your bedroom. If you do, I find jogging helpful in maintaining stamina, though
the exercise itself is not specific to paddling. If you belong to a health
club that has a pool, plain ol' swimming is a great form of conditioning. Hope
your ice melts soon.

G'Day,

Just to confirm Dan's point, you might want to have a look at the latest
Who's who entry - good photo!!

Also for useful exercise - Pilates is good - also if you can get a formal
training program set up by a kayak physio, that can save a lot of wear and
tear.

All the best, PeterO
