Has anyone tried fitting whitewater boat plastic thigh braces into a glass
sea kayak? I'm inspired to think about this after sitting in a new Dagger
rodeo boat, which has adjustment of everything to achieve a great fit,
including inflatable hip pads. Why don't manufacturers create sea kayaks
with perfect fit?
Cheers, PT

I have put a set of Dagger Centrifuge thigh braces in my Dagger
Cortez. And vice versa

I lost 30 lbs and the old Cortez braces did not fit. I tried Dagger
Redline, Animas, rpm MAX, and Centrifuge thigh braces in the Cortez.
The cut of the Centrifuge was the closest. I then used a dremel drill
bit to whittle them down even more till the fit was just right.

Placed the Cortez braces in the Centrifuge. It is a scout boat so it
will fit somebody.

I would like to thank the paddlewise membership, and especially Patrick
Martin, for their help in contributing ideas on releasing a stuck two
piece paddle.

I have tried WD-40 for weeks, hot water on the female side of the
connection, my son, he is 6' 2 and I am 6 ft, twisting on both ends.
Failure

I went out today and bought a rubber hammer. Thanks Patrick for the
Idea. Gently tapping on the joint with a rubber hammer and rotating the
paddle. After ten minutes of tapping, my wife came home and we tried to
twist the paddle and it moved slightly! We grabbed a hold of both ends
and really turned, more movement.

Any way we got the paddle unstuck, All kind of muck in the ends.
Cleaned them out with WD-40.

By the way it is 51 degrees here in Houston, and rain. No way I could
the paddle to below freezing temperatures.

I think it should be taken apart every day after paddling. (I have to do
that, since carry it in a trunk of a car).

I am in a Toyota truck. So I normally leave the paddle connected in the
pickup bed. Once at the house, I disassemble the paddle and store in
the garage. Last spring it refused to separate. My Werner camano
paddle did the same thing several years earlier. After a month or two
it was able to take apart again. This Werner Kauiau (Spelling??) stayed
suck and refused to separate. But it is apart now

I recently sat in a Wilderness System Kevlar demo that had adjustable
thigh braces. Very, very nice. I would love to get up the energy to make a
pair and slap them in my stitch and glue kits.

And was that kevlar demo boat a Tempest?? ;-)

I thought so. The Tempest thighs are straight out of the Wave Sport
whitewater boats, being part of the Confluence family. Bob McDonough and I
designed the Tempest to have the same comfort, fit and performance that the
whitewater paddlers have been demanding (and getting) for years. The
cockpit outfitting also includes removeable and adjustable hip pads, a
whitewater backstrap and a seat pan with leg lifters (from Wildy's Phase 3)

Necky has added quite an impressive seat pan/ thigh brace system in their
new Brit-inspired Chatham 16 and 18, as well. Pyranha has stepped up to the
plate and begun adding more whitewater style outfitting too. Many others
have seen the light.

We have a 'junk yard' of old kayak parts dating back to the original
Perception Dancer with thigh brace systems that do work well in modern sea
boats. All it takes is some cut and paste skills and some stainless
hardware to make it work in most any boat.
