[Paddlewise] HF (shortwave not VHF) transceivers - does anyone use them?

G'Day,

Some questions about VHF, CB and HF radios.

1. Does CB typically have a longer range than VHF, i.e further than line of
sight, when used with a whip antenna?
2. Are handheld waterproof HF transceivers available, suitable for use in a
kayak or on a remote island.
3. Would a handheld HF transceiver have a longer range than VHF
