Gary -- You might check out the 'Great Calusa Blueway' info online at http://www.greatcalusablueway.com. It's touted as the brand new canoe and kayak trail in the Ft. Myers/Sanibel area. I haven't paddled it, but it looks interesting. I was in the area in late December, and we paddled among manatees in the Orange River from a put-in spot at Lee County Manatee Park. There's a Florida Power and Light discharge canal that feeds into the river, and the manatees overwinter there. Not sure if they'd still be hanging around in April, but there's a chance. And you can call the park. There's contact information at http://www.leeparks.org/. The park also rents double sit-on-tops and gear.
