.... Anyway, she asked to borrow some gear, so I thought that I'd slip into
the pile a "good luck" type of card, but I wanted to include some
handwritten or internet printed "tips". That's where I need the help.
I'm looking for some humor, like "Top 10 things not to do on a camping
trip", or "Why wild animals find campers tastey", or whatever. It just
needs to be some stuff to make her laugh, because so far, she's not a
happy camper (pun intended). Can you help? Anybody got anything, or
know where some stuff is on the net?

Fun, but not exactly funny...
When our kids were much younger (3-10), we used to pack up a small box
with little treasures (treasure chest?) to take along on the trip. The
box had small toys or envelopes; one for each day of the trip for each
kid. Each treasure was wrapped in colorful wrapping paper with the
content noted in small print (so the kids wouldn't notice that we knew
what they were getting). The kids got one treasure each day after lunch
when they were the most cranky. The toys were usually from the dollar
store or some novelty shop and the envelopes usually had a couple of
bucks and a note that said things like "buy some ice cream" or "treat
the family to donuts", etc. If there was something like a small squirt
gun, we'd hold it back till it was a hot beach day. The value of the
items was negligible, so if they were broken, lost or discarded no one
minded. If it was cash, the kids got to do the purchasing on their own,
so they could feel like a big shot. Sometimes the treasures were all
that kept us from getting "overheated" on particularly bad days. We
never held back on the treasures if the kids were being surly, but, as
you can tell, we did manipulate which ones were available to choose.
The treasures were usually quite small, so we were able to keep up the
tradition even when we were canoe camping several days away from the
car. We did this for a number vacations and it became a part of their
vacation memories and family humor.
