I suspect Dave Kruger, who paddles the Columbia, must be our leading expert
on the drag coefficients of salt versus fresh water paddling.

I can imagine Dave at the mouth of the Columbia suddenly shooting ahead as
he paddles from one medium to the other - especially when powered by some
of that designer beer. Can't you see him craftily slipping from the blue
pacific water into the brown Columbian fresh water when ever he wants to
ditch some hot shot.

Wait a minute if the fresh water is brown from all that silt wouldn't the
silt slow him down? Bugger all but this is indeed more complicated then I
thought. Holy cow! If the brown Columbian is slow would it be slower then
the Fraser? Oh my God! Those poor souls down on the muddy Mississippi
must be paddling at a stand still. They must have arms like Arnolds. I
hope they never come up here to paddle. I'll have to get one of those
electric motors just to keep up.

A more pertinent discourse would be a discussion on the smoothness of
designer beers over commercial beers. Next weeks topic will be how many
angels can sit on the end of a European paddle versus a Greenland stick.
