A couple of weeks ago I asked about recommendations for Arkansas paddling. We're back after visiting 5 lakes in 6 days. We paddled Big Lake near Blytheville (shallow and muddy but lots of wildlife) and Lake Hinkle (small, with an interesting creek) on the western border. We kayak-sailed Norfolk Lake, Blue Mountain Lake, and (on a rip-roaring windy afternoon) Beaver Lake. Every lake was a delight. None had much boat traffic. Perfect temperatures (mid 80s days, mid 60s nights). No bugs. Some of the Corps of Engineers campgrounds are closed due to budget cuts. Except for a few car-topped river boats, we didn't see another paddle craft all week. Thanks to those who gave suggestions. Maybe next time we'll try some rivers too.
