Subject: [Paddlewise] NRS TriTon Fabric ???
Has anyone had any experience with the TriTon fabric in NRS Revolution
Drytop?

Have had one for about two years. Used for whitewater rivers,
winter/summer at 8000 ft in Colorado, elsewhere in West, surfing on Pacific
side of Baja. I like it a lot.

Is it really breathable? How does it compare with Gore-Tex?

Yes, it does pretty well. Maybe slightly less than the 2 other goretex tops
(Stohlquist and Kokatat) that I wore out. It is hard to judge breathability
with a neoprene spray skirt chimney, and a PFD snugged up tightly. It
certainly wears better than those goretex tops, which would wear thin in the
arms. The NRS top has tougher fabric and wear pads on the elbows. I wear
a Stohlquist nylon pile sweater that seems to drain versus dry out directly.

You might try one on, and notice how tight the neck gasket is. My medium
top took a long time to stretch out the gasket to get comfy on my 15 1/2
neck. I have wanted to try a drytop with the newer neoprene type neck and
latex wrists, for better comfort in summer, or when ot rolling as much. I
think IR makes them.

Also for sea kayaking you might want to see if the fabric is flexible
enough for long paddling days. It seems to soften up a bit with use. A
lighter top would be more comfortable, but they usually wear out faster in
the arms.
With NRS, you are dealing with a solid company-no bs about returns or
solving problems.
Sometimes you can find bargains on the nrsweb.com "great deals" area.

Cheers,
Jay
