I used an original edition of Kirby's Nootka Sound map, back in 1997, and
found it useful. We were mainly on the Esperanza Inlet side, but edged down
to the upper end of Nootka Sound. There was one campsite marked on the map
(on Nooka, just opposite the N end of Bodega Island) which was not usable
(underwater at high tide), but I figured that was just a cartographer's error
or something, and blew it off. On the other side of the coin, if that site
had not been marked, we might not have gone down that route, and might have
selected a different area. As it was, we had to trash a horde of small
alders and make our own site, on ground recently logged, maybe six inches
above high water. Made for a memorable night.

In any case, I did not find so much detail the map ruined my sense of
adventure, and would not want campsite quality to be marked. That's part of
the fun -- to find these things out for yourself.
