Apologies but...
Turns out I've been a bit too efficient with the delete key so 2
questions.

1. Is there a complete archive of this list? If so I can search for
the post I deleted and now need.

2. Someone posted a very fun sounding game for practicing braces -
something to do with a sponge/dead fish - I wanted to send it on to my
local group as a suggestion but now that my shoulder has mended I can't
find the post!!! *_at_#%*!!

Sorry to add repetative windage to the list.

pax,
je

There's always dead fish polo -- basically a game of tag with a wet sponge.
Bracing is one of the skills that helps when you need to duck!

This is not a game, but it's fun. The Rough Water Simulator is based on
Wayne Horowitz's broaching simulator. Basically, clip a line to the deck
on each side, run the lines across the deck and under the hull, assign a
stout (in the British sense) puller to each line. If you run the lines
behind the cockpit the vict^H^H^H^Hstudent has less advance warning.

Pic here: http://webpages.charter.net/cramersec/skr.html

The pullers need to cooperate and should't get carried away. Be sure to
have close safety.

DEAD FISH POLO

Dead Fish Polo was invented on a Boundary Waters trip by Frank Ashby when he
flipped a belated bluegill into Dave Curtis's solo canoe. Dave flipped it
back, and a game was born.

We use a sponge now, preferably several of them, due to the sketchy
availability of the real deal, but the sudden death nature of the
competition remains almost as frenetic as when the missile was rotten. If a
canoe collects a sponge, that paddler is eliminated from the game. The
winner is the last one on the water who has not allowed a sponge in her
boat.

Sponges / fish may be plucked from the water and thrown only by the paddle.
Touching the sponge with hands brings instant disqualification. Boat
ramming, paddle slashing or timid weed-skulking requires the application of
the standing rule: the offending paddler must stand. Particularly when
played with two or three sponges, Dead Fish Polo is an intense game. Fast
acceleration, braking, and heeling to present the high side of the canoe to
the sponge thrower while turning on a dime are valued skills.

It's called dead fish polo. Basically, it's a game of tag in which the person
who is "it" tags the next person by hitting him (or her) with a wet sponge.
Maneuvering skills are very important in this game, but bracing and rolling
skills are also useful when ducking.
