[Paddlewise] Boat copying

I don't know about anyone else but I sure wish one of these experts with
lots of opinions would tell us how they would actually determine if a boat
had been copied (or not). It would be nice to here about something other
than what amounts to, "It's my opinion and you should accept it because I am
some kind of hotshot paddler or whatever".

Or "I know it and I don't have to prove it (or can't be bothered to take
the time to prove it), so there"

Or "I think some one else may have designed the same thing at some time in
the past so every boat is a copy and since you can' t prove they haven't I
must be right."

Or "Who cares, it doesn't affect me so why should anyone else care?"

Or "Hey, aren't we all paddlers and don't we all want to contribute to the
perfection of kayaks free of charge?"

Or "Aren't they all just pointy ended boats?" (I know someone with some old
crappy pointy ended boats who are looking for you :-) )

It could make a cat weep.

Paddle "wise" may have become an oxymoron.

What would happen if everyone who has commented on this issue contributed at
least one objective measurement or form factor or coefficient that would
help to establish similarity? If nothing else it would show a constructive
approach.

Cheers

John Winters
