Reminds me of the time when we had paddled for 7 days to get up to Muir
Glacier. A member of the party, after reflecting how far we had paddled up
the East Arm, said to the guide" so how far are we above sea level since we
left the Icy Straights"

Subject: [Paddlewise] Estimating Elevation Without GPS

I was recently paddling from the mothership Songhee in the waters of British
Columbia's Broughton Archipelago. A fellow paddler, a newcomer to Canada,
inquired of the skipper as to what our elevation might be "......since we
were
so far north." We were standing on the aft deck of this 100 foot long
vessel.
and the skipper glanced around slowly and very seriously replied "About 6
feet I should think."
