Trying to decide on a 3-person tent for both kayak camping and campground
camping. I live in the high desert of northern NM at 7000-ft. elevation, so
summers are warm, and we often get strong winds and afternoon thunderstorms.

I am currently considering the following:

Mountain Hardware Light Wedge 3
Mountain Hardware Hammerhead 3
Marmot Swallow-3P

I learned that the Swallow is being discontinued, so the MH's are at the
top of my list.

Recommendations? Experience?

Many thanks!

In the warm South I love my two person Sierra Designs Meteor Light
Tent. I use it alone and love all the room. I used it for a week
straight in the Everglades and it kept me dry and stayed well
ventilated. It works well in cool weather too. But its not the size
you want. I did a search on the tents I was interested in but added the
word "review" to the search. I think I read well over 100 reviews on
the tent I purchased. I was pleased that many of the reveiws lived in
the same region as me. I havent regretted my purchase and put it down
to reading all those reviews. Campmor typically has great prices on
last years models. REI can have good sales and are easy to deal with
after the sale. Good luck searching and have fun doing it.

We recently purchased and REI Tajah 3 person. My son and I used it on our
last trip and it worked great. One night of 25mph gusts and hard rain was
the worst weather we saw and it held up great. Plenty of room and storage
plus two doors.
Happy camping
Bob

Can't comment on those choices (I'm in a Eureka Mountain Pass 2XT) but
I'd like to ask why you put the Swallow on the bottom of the list
seemingly just because it's being discontinued. I might have been
inclined to put it at the top, thinking that if the differences between
the 3 were slight and I might have bought the Swallow anyway, that I'd
be able to potentially find a great deal on it when it's discontinued.

Just a thought..... I'm certainly no tent expert.
