Have you guys had to camp on 1 foot thick gravel?  How did you stake the

Although I like your idea about taking bags that you fill with the
gravel to use as "dead men", what I've used in this situation is a very
low tech option that was in vogue back in the 50's, ie steel spikes.
Today's light weight tents have totally gone with light weight, and
usually expensive, aluminum stakes (which, as you know bend easily).
However, steel spikes are actually cheaper, never bend (well, maybe if
you took a sledge hammer to one), and - who cares about a little extra
weight in a kayak?  It helps to sort of screw them into the gravel.

see it just before they put water in it, and then a few distant shots of
paddlers playing in it. I wish I could put something like that in my back
yard :-))

large, galvanized nails.  they're 10-12" long X 1/4" thick.  I carry 4. 
The longer plastic tent pegs work ok, as well.
