John, I realize your prior comments did not describe a controlled test  
environment, but I was using the work "objective" to refer to a test that  was not 
conducted by a paddle manufacturer or other  party that would stand to profit 
from the results. I believe  that fairly reliable performance tests could be 
designed for  different paddle designs used in different conditions, but I'm 
sure it  would take some serious effort and a lot of time. Sounds like a good
