I would usually opted for closest point between A and B, myself. In our race across the bow of a cruise ship this summer I laughed at calling the Captain up: "Uh, cap'n, that flock of ducks at the base of your 30 story window are actually kayakers...uh, us...mind hittin' the brakes?"
