A question about the rails and rudder on a Perception Shadow. Forgive me if this is a FAQ. I am barely over five feet tall, and a new paddler. I recently bought a Perception Shadow, partly because it was billed as a good kayak for smaller persons, and my knees do fit quite nicely into the braces. Even so, I do need to put the pegs in the very top holes of the rails. When I try to use the rudder, it jams. I think what is happening is that so much of the sliding part of the rail is unsupported when the pegs are in this top-most position that pressing on the peg arcs the slider in towards the side of the hull and in doing so jams the rudder. I have tested this by sitting right on the edge of the seat so I can put the pegs down several notches. This does seem to keep the rudder from jamming. (Obviously, this is not a good paddling position!) I have thought about somehow building up the pegs, but it has also been suggested to me that the entire rail assembly could be brought up closer to the seat. Any thoughts or advice?
