Paddlewisers, I had an awesome time on the Labor Day holiday weekend at San Miguel Island in Southern California (photo journal at http://www.rollordrown.com/smi.html), but I was disappointed with the new adjustable ferrule system on my Werner paddle. I had recently posted that I hadn't experienced any problems with the ferrule system since I bought the paddle a few months ago. Well, this weekend, some sand got into the ferrule, causing it to jam up, just like those darn skegs. The release button has a tiny coil spring, and sand was preventing the button from popping up to allow the two pieces of the paddle to lock together. Trying to clean it out in the ocean water and banging on it couldn't fix the problem for me in the field. Back at home I had to put some water hose pressure on it and do more banging on it to fix the problem. I really wish Werner would go back to the old ferrule system, which never gave me any problems. Hey, sand happens.
