Paul posted (snip): http://www.extremeinterface.com/ >>>So my question is, are these boats and their maker know to this community? I have the impression they're well known in B.C. especially on Victoria. I'm not looking for dirt, just a cautious consumer not wanting to make a big expensive mistake.<<< The Extreme Interface kayaks aren't hugely popular around here, but perhaps the new Lightspeed line offer some perks to those willing to accept some of the unconventionalities of this line of unusual kayaks. While I'd take some of the claims of the manufacturer with a grain of salt, there are satisfied customers out there, and as always, try, try, try before you buy. But like most prospective kayak purchases, trying a given model in a variety of conditions can be difficult logistically. I'd be inclined to worry about hatch leakage issues with the E.I. line, as well as cavitation around the rudder pocket, but YOU need to thoroughly investigate these aspects yourself and come to your own determinations. Given your Seattle location, I can't imagine a better place for kayak model selection diversity, which might include a trip to the Vancouver area, too. If you are ever up here on Vancouver Island, you can stop in the E.I. store. I can't remember if they have rentals. I've never found the "symposium-type demo-days" all that conclusive, myself.
