subject: [Paddlewise] Feedback on Boat/Maker?

Hello all,

I recently attended the West Coast Kayak Symposium, where I learned
lots and had a blast. Lots of very nice people!

One of my main purposes was to select a boat, as I'm tired of renting
and think my skills will improve more when I have the same boat (my
own...) every time I'm on the water. I was hoping to fall in love
with a boat: failing that, find the best combination of features and
price...

I did fall in love with a boat. I like nearly everything about it,
and when is a boat ever perfect? My _only_
problem is, that after shopping for 3 years, I only heard of the
manufacturer 2 weeks before the Symposium, when I followed a link to
their web page:

http://www.extremeinterface.com/

So my question is, are these boats and their maker know to this
community? I have the impression they're well known in B.C.
especially on Victoria. I'm not looking for dirt, just a cautious
consumer not wanting to make a big expensive mistake.

BTW the boat I really like is the Lightspeed Phoenix 175. I'm a big
guy, and felt extremely comfortable in this boat. The only thing that
was bigger feeling were the Necky Pinta and PWS Thunderbird, both out
of production (and one out of business). Besides, this boat felt much
more responsive and quicker than those other two. The owner (I think)
was very pleasant and spent a lot of time with me showing his unique
design features. Previous high choice, now # 2, was the Impex
Assategue.

Thanks for any feedback and advice.

Still learning,
Paul Hamilton
