Paddlewisers,

I thought you might like the following excerpt
from my day paddle report:

"Besides just a wonderful time, the only other
thing of note was how we were all amazed at Java
Jack's minimalist car topping of his kayak. All
he had was two blocks of foam, which the kayak
sat on upside down. There were no straps.
Instead, he rolled down the window and held onto
the kayak with his hand. He said he didn't have
very far to drive, but I (as well as the others)
never saw anything like it. Then I remembered
that Jack is a construction worker, and it didn't
seem so strange after all."

The last time I saw my first canoe it was being car-topped in a very minimalist manner on a
silver/grey Mustang. No racks, pads, mats, ropes or anything -- just four fellows each with
an arm out the window.

I had just hauled my canoe out of the Beaver River Rat Race near Clarksburg, Ontario, and
was hiking into town to get my dad to drive out to pick up the canoe. When I was a little
way down the road, the Mustang drove past me and stopped at my canoe. Four fellows jumped
out, tossed my canoe on the car's roof, climbed back in, held on to the canoe by reaching
out the windows, and drove away.

I was twelve or thirteen years old. It was my first real canoe of my own.
