Hi Mitch

25 years ago I had a virus attack my inner ear. Woke up thinking the
world had gone crazy (and without even a single drink to blame!!)
Basically was told the "virus routine": Take this antivert and you'll
get over it eventually. The bad news is that this seems to be a weak
spot for repeated virus attacks. While I almost never get a cold, I
have had repeated inner-ear virus' about 4 or 5 times in the intervening
years. These attacks have never been precipitated by any particular
event or activity. On the plus side, the repeat attacks have been no
where near as severe as the first, which totally incapacitated me (as in
can't get out of bed) for a week.

This is not related to the cold-water-immersion vertigo that some others
have mentioned. I get that, as well, if I do the cold-water-dunks
without ear plugs. At least that goes away when your system rewarms!
The two have similar symptoms but are not correlated.

Good luck!
Jennifer
