I didn't undertake any major paddling exploits in 2004. No crossings, no
week-long camping paddles, no rapids. My paddling was pretty much all at a
relaxing pace, enjoying scenery. My most common paddle is across the calm
water of Morro Bay (launching about 12 blocks from my house), to the Sand
Spit, where I set up my chair and read for a few hours with nothing but
lapping waves and birds to accompany me. I often lay down and take a nap for
awhile. It may not be the most exciting, thrilling kind of paddle experience,
but it does wonders for improving my outlook. It may even extend my life, who
knows?

I have another recreational pursuit: bicycle touring. This past summer I was
able to revisit one of my favorite places. I took an unsupported, solo bike
tour down the Oregon coast, camping in hiker/biker sites the whole way. It
was wonderful!

The other spare-time activity I did during 2004 (as well as 2003) was continue
working on my wife's strip kayak. It's almost done! I'm going to give it to
her for Christmas. I'm hoping 2005 will include lots of paddling trips with
her!

Best wishes to everyone in the paddling, bicycling, boat-building communities.
God bless us, everyone!
