Just make sure they are 100% empty. Even if you think they are, hook them up
to the stove and run them dry. We have a trash to energy plant here in
Maine, reffuse is burned as a fuel to generate electricity. Recently several
"unexplained" and fairly serious explosions have taken place in the furnaces
and the general suspicion is those green Coleman canisters are slipping
through w/ some propane still in them.

We are fortunate. My local camping supply store here in Portland, "Maine
Moutainworks" (a small/non franchise operation) will actually collect them
for us and then properly dispose of them. I shall find out where they take
them and post results. Perhaps we can start encouraging a few more camp gas
canister vendors to do the same if there is a standard that works.
