Keith, If you need a cheap (better say inexpensive) camera that makes nearly perfect images (for the price), I'd suggest Nikon Coolpix 2200. I bought it for my son on his 9-th birthday last year and we both like it very much. It is 2MP, light, compact and durable, extremely user-friendly, runs forever on two AA batteries, has 3x optical zoom and a lot of preset modes. The lenses are protected when the camera is off, which comes handy when the kids play with it. I personally use higher-end digital camera, but rely on this one as a sweet backup. If your kids need more megapixels, which I doubt, you can go for 3200 model. The waterproof casing is also available for this camera. Want something that they can't destroy by leaving outside - > want them to have fun with photography. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
