Just to break the philosophical thread (to use or not to use the technology
:-), - does anybody have experience with these tents: Sierra Designs
Hyperlight and Sierra Designs Lightning?

Both tents are 3-season 2-person, but I'm going to use it as a 2.5 season
solo. All online stores shamelessly quote same 3 feedbacks. Hyperlight has 2
different aluminum poles (+ one very short), i.e. needs thinking when setting
up - which is bad.

Lightning has 2 identical poles, but needs staking the fly in 2 points, which
is bad, both on rocks and sand.

Lightning seems to have more mesh than Hyperlight, but there was a complaint
on poor venting of Lightning with fly door fully closed, which can't be kept
partially open since doesn't have a zipper. From what i see, with fly door
*fully* open Hyperlight will let more water in than Lightning, due to fly door
close to the entrance door (vestibule of Hyperlight is tiny).

Common sense tells me that Hyperlight will be more storm-proof due to rigid
aluminum poles and 3-rd short pole (a sort of A-frame).

Hyperlight is $200, Lightning - $225.

I have owned the Sierra Designs Meteor Light for two years. Many
weekends and a full week in the Everglades later I am still pleased.
Big, fairly light, strong, very well ventilated. I live in Georgia, USA
and so humidity is a real issue most of the year. When kayak camping I
dont really care about weight and only worry about volume when packing
the boat. I looked up the stats on the Lightning, Hyperlight and Meteor
Light. The packed size for the Hyperlight is 19" x 6" with an internal
area of 43 square feet. The packed size for the Lightning is 25" x 7",
internal area of 31 square feet. The Packed size for the Meteor Light
is 24" x 6", internal area of 40 square feet. The Meteor Light has
three identical poles making it quite idiot proof and very strong. It
has a nice vestibule and a big fly window. It can commonly be found on
line for $179. Good luck hunting. I dont think any of the above tents
will disappoint.
