Kirk's efforts, and your's in hosting the server, are most certainly appreciated by myself and I'm sure many others. Paddlewise contributes hugely to my enjoyment and understanding of kayaking, as do some of the websites skilfully crafted by its members and which I would not know about without this forum. Personally I'ld double Kirk's salary or at least buy him a beer or two if we ever get a chance to meet. All the best. Many thanks and a happy New Year, PeterO *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). G'Day, It just occurred to me that 'in' jokes can sometimes backfire and that not every one might realise that Paddlewise is run entirely voluntarily - no pay involved - all the more impressive! So thanks again, PeterO *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). Feeling a need to give all of the "volunteers" credit for keeping paddlewise functioning.... Bob M. runs the physical system on which paddlewise is based. I'm not sure Bob volunteered so much as he is stuck with us. Peter Osman maintains the Who's Who. Jackie fills in on occaision when I do things like take a vacation. She also offers opinions when I have questions and gives me a heads up if something is amiss. There are a couple other people who have done this and it's appreciated. J.J. has filled in for me when I went on vacation, again much appreciated, and invisible to readers. I do the day to day stuff, and once in a great while update the website. The website has languished since I took over, as I simply haven't had time to do updates. If someone wants to format "memorable" posts for the archives feel free to let me know, and send me formatted content ;-) I've got a 4 day weekend, I'm thinking I might get some time to format some of the 35 contributions that I have queued up for formatting/posting. Peter's comment about meeting people from paddlewise got me thinking. I believe I've only met, in real life, 6 members of paddlewise. 4 on the US west coast and 2 on the US east coast. Two of the 4 on the west coast were from posting requests, to paddlewise, looking for paddling partners while I was travelling (both wonderful events). For some paddling specific content. It's 50 degrees (fahrenheit) here today. My canoe partner and I paddled a local river where there was a quarter to half mile stretch we could paddle, between ice jams. We had to break a section of ice out and push the ice into the current to make a launch site. The thin ice shelves along the river made an interesting tinkling sound as the wake from the canoe hit them. It wasn't much, but most of the fresh water around here is hard. It was a little too windy today to take a canoe into the ocean, beyond my worthwhile risk assessment..... Happy New Year.
