In my earlier summary post about LED flashlights, I forgot about another
handy little light I came across in my search that one might consider as a
good waterproof PFD/cockpit/camp light:

It is called the Safe-Light and runs on single 9 V battery (which I think
helps its brightness and also run time). Claims to be waterproof to
15'. Lifetime warranty. Has a unique "Night-Light" feature which
basically lights the LED all the time (will run this way for a period of 2
years). This makes the light glow - makes it VERY easy to find in a dark
tent - and actually has enough illumination in this mode to do some basic
things - e.g., moving around. It has a high beam mode - the light will run
40 hrs on this setting. Also has a flasher mode (will run for 200 hrs) and
the lens is shaped in a dome so it actually is a 360 degree signal
flasher. It comes with a integral clip for mounting to a strap or hat and
the clip is also magnetic - which could come in handy (although I can't
think of too many pieces of steel paddling gear!). Actually, I find having
a magnet around camp nice. If have to reapir something with little
screws/springs (stoves), a magnet to grab of hold those little loose
fasteners can save a lot of searching through the pine needles!! Also, the
light screws together with actual screws when you install the battery - so
maybe it is a bit more leak proof than snap together models. Maybe not.

Site with pics: http://www.theledlight.com/safelight.html Notice
dimensions - not as small as one might think...

OK, that was WAY too much info on a flashlight!! But for those
gadget-obsessed gearheads and flashlight fanatics it might be useful.
