Gun case looks to me to be best solution to carrying a paddle but measure before you buy! Good or bad side of the paddle challenge was security was so intent on it they did not find the pocket knife in my other carryon bag - which I was horrified to find when I got home and unloaded it. Argh. I wish there would be some consistency to this issue. My wife was rejected at security with her 2 piece paddle and had to return to the ticket counter and check it on. As she already checked on 2 bags she was nailed for 50 bucks. I, too, have been turned back with 2 piece paddles and am reluctant to even try it with my 4 piece paddles. The 4 piece is convenient to pack in gear duffels, but I'd rather not. Rob: I packed my Greenland paddles in 4" PVC inside my ski bag when I went to Alaska. People in Alaska who noticed it would ask me nonchalantly, "Gun or fishing rod?" The ski bag took a beating somewhere between Juneau and O'Hare but the PVC did its job.
