Does anyone have a suggestion for a GPS unit with long(er) battery
life ? The only features I am interested in is Time/Distance paddled
and shoreline map...

I'm very happy with the Garmin GPS 72, which is a 12 channel parallel receiver
with WAAS capability under $200. I use it paddling, hiking, and flying.

I also have this one (plus an older Garmin 12) and I agree. Batteries
last a long time in this one. For the paddler, it also is fairly
waterproof and it floats. It also has the USA Tide tables stored in it....
