Picking up on the theme of kayakers [ outdoors people ] being kicked around by officious folks in uniforms, I well remember reading about the kayakers off the coast of CA, San Francisco ? who tangled with a large shark, possibly a white pointer near a seal colony some years back. The group made it to shore, one with a kayak bearing the marks of the white pointer attack, only to be reprimanded by a 'ranger' for unauthorised landing in a nature reserve! Apparently the ranger was unimpressed when shown the evidence to back up their scary encounter.
