I have come across a new-to-me organization that I think is very right-minded about conserving land for public access. The name of the organization is Trust for Public Land. Its Web site is: www.tpl.org I have watched its local representative do a number of really wonderful conservation efforts - both she and her husband are canoeists. From the Web site, its mission is: "Land conservation is central to TPL's mission. Founded in 1972, the Trust for Public Land is the only national nonprofit working exclusively to protect land for human enjoyment and well-being. TPL helps conserve land for recreation and spiritual nourishment and to improve the health and quality of life of American communities. " Its work: "TPL's legal and real estate specialists work with landowners, government agencies, and community groups to: create urban parks, gardens, greenways, and riverways build livable communities by setting aside open space in the path of growth conserve land for watershed protection, scenic beauty, and close-to-home recreation " I am not a member of this organization and usual caveats apply, I have no financial interest; and before you put time/money into the organization, check it out at your local level. OTOH, if you also weren't aware of them before, here is another potential ally in making public access availalbe. TPL typically does not hold title to this land, their purpose is to partner funding sources with organizations that then take title to the property to maintain it in perpetuity.
