I am most likely going to be in El Segundo, Ca on business March 19-22 and have scheduled a free day on the 20th when I was hoping I might be able to do some paddling. Any suggestions for a paddling shop where I might rent a kayak. John, Southwind Kayaks is located in Irvine, CA (about 45 minutes south of El Segundo. I believe the web site is www.southwindkayaks.com. I'm guessing you will be working with either Raytheon, The Aerospace Corp, or Northrop-Grumman. How'd I do? I wasn't planning on renting a car while I'm there (the place I'm going to is just a few miles from LAX) but it's a start. >I'm guessing you will be working with either Raytheon, The Aerospace Corp, >or Northrop-Grumman. How'd I do? Nope. I've been involved with an open source software framework called uPortal (www.uportal.org) for the past few years and the core developers meeting is being held at the offices (Unicon) where the former project manager worked (he just recently left the project before the meeting location was announced). I'm the documentation coordinator for the project and have been involved in some of the database work and infrastructure. Since our former project manager is leaving the project there are a lot of decisions to be made as to how to fill his shoes. The first developers meeting that I ever attended on the project was held in St. Johns, Newfoundland and several of the attendees and I spent a day following the meeting kayaking off the coast with an outfitter. I've got a great photo from inside a sea cave with several of the uPortal developers sitting in kayaks just outside the entrance. I use it as an intro whenever I do a presentation on uPortal because it looks like a portal with the developers in the middle.
