Hi there, is something wrong with Paddlewise group? I haven't gotten any
traffic in almost four days now.

Sometimes it just turns quiet, no reason why. It's often quiet on weekends,
but I can figure out the reason for that -- not that everyone is out
paddling, but that they check P-wise on the Q-T from work . . .

I for one, got "sick" for two days in addition to the weekend for a
nice long paddling trip. God it was good!

I was amazed to find almost no Paddlewise mail when I returned.

Nah, everybody's out building themselves one of those new "BlockBuster" boats.

My theory is that everyone is in agreement about everything.

I have a better theory. And it is even paddling related. Let the PFD
debate begin!

I've found that my PFD is a lot more comfortable since I took out all that
thermal insulation.

I just returned from a couple of days of intensive surfing and paddling
south of Sydney and am in the market for a new helmet. Having to wear my
heavy poly helmet for a couple of days was hell. Can anyone recommend a
good brand of composite material (carbon/kevlar) helmet? Ones with the
baseball cap-type peak particularly interests me to avoid being
barbecued by the sun.

Also is their any great advantage in having one that covers your ears? I
found that it significantly reduced my ability to hear shouted
warnings (we had some great kayak on kayak collisions). I figure a good
blow on the side of the head is probably going to break your neck anyway.

Be interested in any comments / suggestions.

Richard.

Here in Barrie Ontario, we have been spending all of our energy chopping a
hole in the ice big enough for our kayaks. Unfortunately, the ice is almost
2 ft thick, so by the time we get home, we are too tired to write emails
:~)

I admire the patience of anyone who can sit down and pluck all the feathers from
their paddle, especially those big long kayak paddles.

But if you have wrist problems doesn't all that meticulous hand work cause a lot
of trouble? Or is it offset by the reduced wind resistance once you get them off?

I presume Joy meant for this to go to the list.

Joy:
I think you will find the signal-to-noise ratio very very high here, and the
quality superlative. Nevertheless it is a community and sometimes the
collective sense of humour comes out. Once you find a topic you aren't
interestedin, zap it all and don't read it.

:-).... This sometimes reminds me of some science or theology symposium
:-)... I.e., authors, already in posession of profound knowledge, are
speaking or answering in order to get a sensible response from the widest
possible audience, and thus, to get closer to the Truth, (or to disseminate
what they consider to be the Truth :-). Since this process of "getting
closer" is endless
in all possible directions, it would be cruel to stop people from speaking
up, and would probably hamper the evolution of paddling civilization :-)...
