[Paddlewise] flotation or seasocks

Currently I only use a sea sock. I've just been paddling short day trips
so
far. I'm starting to feel like a sea sock isn't an acceptable total
substitute for floatation bags (of any type) because I've noticed a few
times in practicing self-rescues I've managed to partially tear the sea
sock
off the coaming of my fujita 480ex.

 Thoughts?
