You have to hold the umbrella with one hand and in the other hold your paddle in a stern rudder to maintain directional control. Pretty soon one or the other hand gets real tired. Problem number two - unless you have lots of fresh water your umbrella will take a very serious beating from the salt ocean water. Of course if you are inland that's not an issue.
