I've worked for private companies, Crown corporations (i.e. in Canada, government-owned companies) and government agencies and there is no discernable difference between them if they all do a good job. However, when they put cost cutting and profit above everything else, the result is a bad place to work - short term gain and long term failure. A good work environment is a good work environment regardless of who signs the cheque. Good work is good work regardless of who manages the process. Good management is good management regardless of who owns the business. Saying that private enterprise is good and government is bad is a ludicrous assertion that ignores reality.
