After reading articles and reviews, I bought a Icom M32 from West Marine last night. It's a nicad setup, and I ordered the AA tray. for positive backup. $149. I also ordered a two year extended warranty for another 22 bucks. It's got an aluminum chasis, a military rating and meets the waterproof standards. So I theoretically bought 5 years of radio for just over 200 dollars with shipping. It's supposed to be a competent radio which is favorably reviewed and rated best buy by one or two sites I looked at. For another 30 bucks, you can get an LI version of the M 32 which appears to be a West Marine exclusive. The warranty was a bit more, and they didn't list an AA tray, but I suspect that it's so new that they didn't have it listed yet. I might have jumped for the additional dollars, but I just bought a Spirit Sail and wanted a few bucks left for gas to get to the interesting places. John MacKechnie. PS.
